Dedicated Circuits

A dedicated circuit is a separate circuit breaker that serves only one appliance or area. The National Electrical Code requires that a dedicated circuit be used for each fixed appliance. Designed to supply electricity to appliances that consume high energy, dedicated circuits prevent electrical service interruption and fire hazards.

In the absence of a dedicated circuit, an appliance may draw more electrical current than the capacity of a standard circuit. This can cause damage to your appliance and void the manufacturer warranty, damage your electrical wiring and, most unfortunately, an electrical fire.

National Electrical Code (NEC)

The National Electrical Code (NEC) is the standard for the safe installation of electrical wiring and equipment in the United States.  The NEC, while having no legally binding regulation as written, is generally adopted by states and municipalities as the standards by which they enforce safe electrical practices within their jurisdiction.

Considered the benchmark for safe electrical installations, the NEC is published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) every three years.
